Remove Grass Stains from Nylon Jackets

Updated: February 2026

Nylon's smooth synthetic surface resists stains better than natural fibers, but grass can still leave noticeable marks. The advantage is that nylon's durability allows for more aggressive cleaning without damage.

Cold Water Pre-Rinse

Rinse grass-stained nylon immediately with cold water. Run water through the back of the stain to push grass particles out of the fabric rather than deeper in. Cold water prevents chlorophyll from setting into the synthetic fibers.

Dish Soap Direct Application

  • Apply liquid dish soap directly to the grass stain
  • Work it into the nylon with your fingers
  • Create a good lather
  • Let it sit for 15 minutes
  • Dish soap cuts through grass oils effectively

Enzyme Cleaner Treatment

Enzyme-based stain removers work exceptionally well on nylon. Spray the enzyme cleaner on grass stains and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. The enzymes break down grass proteins and chlorophyll without harsh chemicals that could affect nylon's water-resistant coating.

White Vinegar Soak

Mix equal parts white vinegar and cold water. Soak the stained area for 20 minutes —you can spot-soak just the affected section. Vinegar's acidity neutralizes remaining grass pigments and is safe for nylon's synthetic structure.

Machine Wash

Wash the nylon jacket in cold water on a gentle cycle with regular detergent. Avoid fabric softener , which can coat nylon and reduce its water-resistant properties. Air-dry or use low heat—high temperatures can damage nylon and set any remaining stains.
