The Samsung ND error code means your washing machine is not draining water from the drum. This error is similar to the 5C code but appears on different Samsung models. Water remains in the drum after cycles, preventing proper spinning and leaving clothes soaking wet.
Common Drain Blockages
ND errors typically result from clogged drain pump filters filled with lint, coins, or small objects, kinked or blocked drain hoses preventing water flow, or foreign objects stuck in the drain pump impeller itself. Over time, lint and detergent residue naturally accumulate in the drain system.
Complete Drain Cleaning
- Turn off and unplug the washer for safety
- Locate the drain filter access panel (usually bottom right front)
- Place towels on the floor and have a shallow pan ready
- Open the access panel and extend the emergency drain tube
- Remove the cap and drain water into your pan (may take several refills)
- Once drained, unscrew the drain filter counterclockwise
- Remove all debris - coins, lint, buttons, hairpins, etc.
- Check inside the filter housing with a flashlight for missed objects
- Clean the filter thoroughly under running water
- Reinstall the filter by screwing clockwise until snug, replace drain tube, close panel
Drain Hose Inspection
Pull the washer away from the wall and inspect the drain hose. Check for kinks, especially where it connects to the standpipe. Disconnect the hose and look inside for blockages. You can run water through it from a faucet to verify it's clear.
Testing Your Repair
After cleaning everything, plug the washer back in and run a spin cycle to test drainage. Water should drain rapidly and completely. If the ND error clears and water drains properly, you've successfully fixed the issue. If it persists despite a clean filter and clear hose, the drain pump motor itself may have failed and require replacement.
